Abstract


The ethnic costume, as a cultural symbol, is one of carriers of the national culture. To analyze this symbol has important meaning to understanding of ethnic culture mentality and spirit characteristics, also has significance to the understanding of ethnic way of life and change of history and culture. The Chuxiong Yi nationality is the old-line minority in Yunnan province. There are lots of branches of Chuxiong Yi, and its fineries are rich and colourful. The article emphasizes on the research of Chuxiong Yi costume sculpts, dress patterns, and accessories through reviews in Chuxiong areas. And then I summarize the taste and culture of Chuxiong Yi. Chuxiong Yi fineries have high value of arts and design. With the social development and progress of the times, people’s living standard continuously improving the aesthetic sense in continuing to strengthen. Chuxiong Yi beautiful costumes, generous, elegant, practical and have a strong Oriental Art style, in the Chuxiong Yi costumes of their own heritage distinct national characteristics and strong local flavor on the premise of the market also brought new demands. In the end, the article discusses the carrying forward and application of fineries of the Chuxiong Yi nationality in modern design. It is expected that this study can extract some elements with national characteristics, provide more fodders to modern design.
