Abstract


Aim:To descript the status quo of nuring students’s value tendency of career choice and career development.To understand characteristic of different background nursing students’s value tendency of career choice and career development.Methods:The study is non-experimental and descriptive.Some special questionnaire is used to survey the work value of nursing students of two colleges in wuhan city.The questionnaire is composed with general information and Super’s Work Value Inventory revised by Ning weiwei.The sample is 326 nursing students.Results:The following are 15 facts on work value that 326 nursing students place emphasis on(from most to less):way of life,achievement,associates,altruism,prestige, independence,esthetics,creativity,economic return,intellectual stimulation,surpervisory relations,surroundings,variety,management,security.The score on 15 work value scales is 14.29~17.07.The mean of all items is from 2.76 to 4.39.In 60 items,there are 43 items(about 88.3%) where the means are from 3.6 to 5.The correlation coefficients on 15 work value scales in different background students are from 0.561 to 0.904,p<0.05 or p<0.01.and the coefficients are significant.But there are significant differences on some scales in 15 work value of students who are different in grade,sex,family or areas and so on.Conclusion:On career choice and career development,the nursing students’ value tendency is shown in the following:15 facts on work value that students place emphasis on (from most to less):way of life,achievement,associates,altruism,prestige,independence, esthetics,creativity,economic return,intellectual stimulation,surpervisory relations, surroundings,variety,management,security.The facts that the nursing students place emphasis on when facing work choice and work development are increasing so that it becomes harder to find a satisfied job.That indicates the nursing student should harmony the gap between dreams and reality when they are hunting a job.They should know and regulate themselves according to the reality.The study has shown some same points in value tendency on work value as other similar ones and there are also changes,which has indicated that there are obvious continuous and developmental changes on students’ work value.There are considerable consistency on value tendency of career choice and career development in different background nursing students,namely different background nursing students place emphasis on some same work value and ignore same others because of the same social-cultural background.But there are some differences on some work value in different background nursing students.The author proposes that the college and hospital managers value nurses’ career choice and career development.The college can provide some career education and guide to students and pay more attention on the development of work value and positive intervene in their work value.
