Abstract


The advent of the knowledge-based economy and globalization accelerates the competition of national economy and comprehensive strength. In order to be in an invincible position in the fierce competition, the British Government has realized the importance of setting up learning-based society . They will increase input to the development of human resources and improve the quality of workers and professionals in all fields, which results in continually enhancing the competitiveness of the enterprises. In view of it, the British Government attached great importance to lifelong learning and formulated a series of reports about lifelong learning.University for Industry was given rise to the concept of lifelong learning . It is British open long-distance educational organization. Its establishment means that Britain is forming a modern learning network around the world. As a new form of educational organizations, University for Industry has provided a good platform for British citizens to achieve life-long learning aim.The objective of the paper is the University for Industry. The paper adopts literature research .The author collects numerous relevant materials from the internet to ensure the paper’s objective and science. At the same time, analytic method and comparative method are used in the paper to deeply analyze the background, features, contributions and relevant contents . The paper is made up of five major parts.The first part is the introduction. This part introduces the background and significance and elaborates domestic and foreign research conditions, concepts and research methods.The second part is the background. The part analyzes the background of University for Industry from international situation, political context and economic reason.The third part is the outline. By narrating the nature, strategic objective, activities, management system and network distribution, the author intends to provide comprehensive understanding for readers and prepare for following contents.The fourth part is the features. As the key point of the paper , the part summarizes seven features of University for Industry, including public-private jointly operation pattern, market-orientated operation method, widespread and practical curriculum, all-round open study pattern, quick convenience service support, study and service quality assurance and democrat concerns on minority groups. The part tries to deliver comprehensive, deep and logical summary of the features. The features are the superiority of University for Industry, which will ensure its unceasingly development and improvement.The last part is reference. Firstly the part analyses the significance of University for Industry. Since the foundation in 1998, University for Industry has become the largest e-learning network of its kind in the world and it has greatly prompted the development of British’s lifelong learning. Based on analysis of features and contribution with the current situation in China, the paper proposes four beneficial references and enlightenments for the striding development of lifelong learning in China.The paper mainly researches the features of University for Industry, with the purpose of providing useful references for the development of lifelong learning in China.
