Medical Imaging is an important basis for clinical diagnosis . How efficient compression characteristics of medical image , has been one of the hot issues of the field of image compression . Medical image compression requirements under the premise of ensuring the quality of the image , try to improve the compression ratio . A new generation of image compression standard JPEG2000 superior compression performance , it has a region of interest encoding , stream rate control and progressive transmission functions , very suitable for medical image compression . With DICOM3.0 standard JPEG2000 support , and more to promote the JPEG2000 medical image compression . This paper combined the the JPEG2000 standard research medical image compression . First , the introduction of the basic theory of the medical image compression ; Secondly, focuses on the key technology - wavelet transform in the JPEG2000 standard , experiments to prove the superiority of its performance ; once again , in-depth study of JPEG2000 introduced JPEG2000 standard characteristics described suitable for medical image compression of JPEG2000 encoding process , an improved method for the region of interest encoding ; Finally, in the medical image processing software , the DICOM file compression and decoding functions , this software also supports a variety of image formats.
