Abstract


Guided by dialectical materialism and historical materialism, by reviewing and analysing the history of the curriculum change and reform in American primary schools and middle schools after 1980s, and using the method of history in unity with logic, tak- ing the specific research on difference between countries as the framework, this thesis trys to grasp systematicly the history, present situation and trend of the curriculum in Ameri- can primary schools and middle schools,to discover the basic characteristics and principles of the reform of the education and the curriculum in American primary schools and middle schools, to summarize the successful experience and the lessons from failure, to abstract the positive elements from the reform of curriculum in these schools, to offer the reference to the present reform in chinese primary schools and middle schools and to give some ad- vice to the construction of the curriculum system for chinese elementary education, to the promotion of the curriculum reform, for the 21st. century. This thesis includes the preface and the y,the body has three parts. It first does a research on the curriculum in American primary schools and middle schools before 1980, respectively reviewing and summerizing the construction, reforme and practice of the cur- riculum. Secondly it does specific researches on the background, aim , content, mea- sures, achievements, problems, characteristics and trend of the education and curriculum reform in American primary schools and middle schools since 1980s. Finally it gives ref er- ence and advice to the reform and development of the curriculum in chinese primary schools and middle schools.
