Abstract


With the acceleration of the development of urban economy and the reformation of the household registration system in recent years, a growing number of rural labor transfer to cities for work. According to Lewis’s dual economy model, labor transfer contributes to the convergence of the income between urban and rural areas. But in real life, we have found that the income gap between rural and urban areas has been enlarged instead of being shortened with the expanding of the scale of transfer of rural labor. Is it a paradox of the reality and the theory? This paper analyzes the influence of rural labor transfer on urban-rural income gap of Chongqing.This article firstly analyses the theory of labor transfer, and selects the Lewis-Ranis-Fei theoretical model as the theoretical basis of this article. This model divides the labor transfer into three stages, and in different stages, the impact of labor transfer on urban-rural income gap is different. Then this paper analyses the action mechanism of labor transfer on the urban-rural income gap and points out that labor transfer has two contrary effects on the urban-rural income gap. Then combined with relevant theoretical models, this paper reaches a conclusion that the labor transfer of Chongqing is in the second stage through the analysis of the basic situation of rural labor transfer, the urban-rural income gap and some economic characteristics of Chongqing. According to the Lewis-Ranis-Fei theoretical model, labor transfer would expand the urban-rural income gap in second stage.To confirm the above conclusion, the article analyses the impact of fifteen indicators on urban-rural income gap of Chongqing by quantitative analysis. The results show that the impact of labor transfer, the growth rate of industrial added value, the urbanization rate and the ratio of loan amount on GDP on the income gap between urban and rural area is significant. Compared with other factors, labor transfer has a great positive influence on income gap, which confirms the conclusion that the rural labor transfer expands the urban-rural income gap in Chongqing.Finally, the article summarizes the main content, and according to the related conclusions, pertinently puts forward the relevant suggestions, which are promoting the transfer of rural labor to speed up the process of labor transfer, adjusting the rural industrial structure and enhancing the agricultural independent development ability, increasing the investment in rural areas to reduce the investment gap between urban and rural area, promoting the process of urbanization to enhance the radiation effects of cities to rural areas.
