Abstract


A good command of the lexical features of broadcast English news reporting (BENR) is of great importance to those who are interested in listening English news as well as those who are engaged in writing broadcast English news. This paper concentrates on the lexical characteristics of BENR, based on the corpora WENR (Written English News Reporting), T4, MTE and CEB6 wordlist. The detailed analysis is given on the data obtained through SMOBOL4, SPSS and FOXPRO. It is concluded that apart from its similarities with WENR, BENR exihibits some lexical features of its own due to the oral medium.
