Background As the most common chronic respiratory disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) prevalence, morbidity and mortality, and disease burden posed by increased year by year. It is estimated that China currently has more than 43 million patients with COPD, making breathing academia and the whole community must face serious challenges. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease burden lies in that it reflects a more comprehensive COPD on society, families and the impact of the patient. According to the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) information, the United States in 1993 because of the economic burden caused by COPD is $ 23.9 billion, including $ 14.7 billion in direct medical costs, $ 470 million and $ 4.5 billion indirect costs costs associated with premature death. China has no authority on this item. In order to collect and improve the economic burden associated with COPD disease information, \Academician Zhong Nanshan and Ran Pixin professors as China's participation in the global research project leader and coordinator, has started research work related. This study comes from the Guangdong Natural Science Foundation, aims to develop COPD reduce the financial burden on health policy to provide baseline data and quantitative analysis conclusions. South China Research Objective chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and economic burden of patients hospitalized for more extensive and in-depth study of the economic burden of COPD and COPD developed to reduce the financial burden of health policy, to provide baseline data and quantitative analysis conclusions. Materials and Methods 2008 in Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases (First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College) COPD patients admitted as a research object, statistical data from the hospital information management systems and medical record access. COPD patients hospitalized economic burden of disease, including direct and indirect economic burden of the economic burden of both the direct economic burden to patients with COPD hospitalization costs represented indirect economic burden of hospitalized patients with COPD disability-adjusted life year (DALY) combines human capital France (Human Capital Approach) to measure. Results 1.669 cases of hospitalized patients with COPD, the mean per capita based on direct economic burden of 22,341.58 yuan, based on the median per capita direct economic burden was 12,666.57 yuan. 2.669 cases of hospitalized patients with COPD, the mean per capita based on indirect economic burden of 40,503.02 yuan, based on the median per capita indirect economic burden was 14,335.34 yuan. 3.669 cases of hospitalized patients with COPD, based on the mean per capita economic burden of disease was 62,844.60 yuan, which accounted for 35.55% of direct economic burden, accounting for 64.45% indirect economic burden; based on the median per capita economic burden of disease was 29,915.73 yuan. Summary 1. Hospital stay, whether surgery, marital status, and patients with COPD produce a higher source of direct economic burden of the main factors. (2) Strengthen rational drug use, reasonable inspection and reasonable treatment norms, shorten the average length of stay, stick three preventive health strategies to reduce the incidence of COPD and morbidity, improve patient quality of life and economic burden of disease is to reduce the effective way.
