Abstract


Poetics of Culture is not only a hot topic in the fields but also an important subject of theories of literature and art. Researches on contemporary Chinese west novels serve China’s west development greatly in that they will help exploit the resources of west culture and promote the construction of spiritual civilization. The research, combining Poetics of Culture and contemporary Chinese west novels, therefore, bears great social and cultural significance in that it does not only discover the practical value of Poetics of Culture but also opens a new door to the researches on contemporary Chinese west novels.The paper, composed of "Interpreting poetics of culture", "Cultural Interpretation of Contemporary Chinese West Novels", and "Poetic Value of Contemporary Chinese West Novels", systematically exposes in approach of poetics of culture the past, the present and the future of contemporary Chinese west novels.Part one, "Interpreting Poetics of Culture", discusses the origin of Poetics of Culture (Neo-historicism), its subversion of various criticisms of formism ,and its summon of cultural consciousness and returning value of arts , summarized by citing Wang Yuechan’s opinion, its characteristics of whole horizons, cross-discipline , and the combination of text and context. The section "Poetics of Culture in China" focuses on explaining that the construction of Poetics of Culture in China should be of Chinese characteristics, and should carry two basic features : cultural connotation , and poetic value , which lay the theoretical foundation for the paper.Part two, "Cultural connotation in contemporary Chinese west Novels" , discusses the rich and deep cultural and aesthetic meanings, cultural phenomina ,and inside cultural information by exploring the outer and inner meanings ,multiple and dense cultural carriers ,and promoteshumanities in the exemplified novels written by Zhang Chenzhi ,Chen Zhongshi, and Alai, in order to show that contemporary Chinese west novels are in conformity with the feature of profound cultural connotation required by poetics of culture .Part Three , "Poetic value in contemporary Chinese West novels ," discusses the pioneering poeticness , the omnipresent symbolism ,and the colorful languages of contemporary Chinese west novels , in order to show that the novels , rich in poetic and artistic conception and unparalleled in poetic value , are in conformity with the aesthetic conception required by poetics of culture .The parper conclude that contemporary Chinese west novels serves as perfect interpretations of culture in that they bear the two features of "cultural connotation" and "poetic value" required by poetics of culture .
