At the age of information, news is so important to all of us. As an indispensible part of news reports, news translation plays a great role in our life. However, so far, it has attracted less attention than it is deserved; moreover, most researches on it remain on the linguistic level(黄勤,2003:23). As a matter of fact, news translation is never a mere shift of languages; contrarily, it is manipulated by many extra-linguistic factors within a given culture.Focusing on the concept of "patronage" from Lefevere’s manipulation theory, this thesis tries to probe into China’s external-oriented news translation by adopting a descriptive approach to demonstrate with many sound examples how the patronage manipulates China’s external-oriented news translation, which shows clearly that patrons’status and authority are far more powerful than translators’, for they manipulate the whole process of China’s external-oriented news translation, specifically the translation purposes, text choices, even the translation strategies and methods, etc., accompanying by a rewriting process manipulated by their intentions, typical of "a complex of action involving team-work" (Snell-Hornby,2001:47), which, initiated and organized by the patrons who are the government agencies representing the dominant ideology of the society for some special purpose and effect. In this case, the translation process definitely reflects the manipulation by ideology, poetics and patronage, that’s to say, just as Wang puts(王东风,2003(5):23), "to find the balance between the two different political ideologies and the best conjunction between two different nations’ aesthetics".
