At present, the construction of the computer system from the hardware and software environment as the center into applications and data, and enterprise demand for data storage technology is also rising, SAN precisely in order to meet the requirements of enterprises such high storage technology generated. SAN will mature network technology is applied to storage management, storage device and the host point-to-point connection concept a fundamental change. SAN storage network, the storage device is no longer a host appendage but connected as a whole, storage networks in order to provide services to all hosts. SAN system more comprehensive study, and participated in an international cooperation project to construct a heterogeneous network shared storage system, on the basis of the SAN. At present, the research results of this project has been put into practical use. SAN shared storage system is a new type of distributed network storage system, the client system through a high-speed network (Fibre Channel or IP network) direct access to the shared data on the disk array, rather than through the server, thereby improving the entire the performance of the storage system. Traditional storage systems often need to modify the system kernel, so not only increasing the difficulty of the system, but also makes the application of the kernel limited and difficult to maintain. Design SAN shared storage system based on open systems (such as UNIX, Linux, Windows), it is the user-level application software, without changing the open system kernel, can take advantage of the characteristics of the application layer to optimize disk I / O performance, easy implementation, maintenance and transplantation, shielding the differences in heterogeneous systems, to provide a unified interface for the application, and transparent data storage access, and high-performance data read and write. The system has been achieved in international cooperation projects, performance evaluation shows that the system is close to the local storage system performance. This paper summarizes the work and achievements of the author of the study, the first details of the SAN concept, characteristics and applications, and its physical structure, topology and analysis, and a detailed description of the design and functionality of the SAN shared storage system, and its realization involved in the network shared storage, mainframe clustering, multipath technology to do an in-depth analysis and research, and finally the SAN shared storage system performance analysis and system summary.
