Vocabulary is the important content in English teaching and it has a close relationship with culture. Even the same vocabulary has different cultural information in different culture. We can not use our native language mechanism to learn foreign language vocabulary. We should know vocabulary’s conceptual meaning and get invisible background information behind the words. When two persons who come from different cultural backgrounds are to communicate, even if they master rich vocabulary, right grammatical structure and approved pronunciation, communication can not go on smoothly. Neglecting vocabulary’s cultural connotation will directly affect word choosing and using, thus causing the communication barrier. Accordingly, teachers should give students cultural guidance including introduction of cultural background and values to make students fully understand language’s profundity, complexity , and flexibility .The paper discussed the concept of culture and redefined the meaning of culture in this study. The paper also reviewed the development history of culture teaching home and abroad and analyzed the current situation of vocabulary-teaching and culture-teaching in senior high middle school. It also elaborated on the principle and content of the cultural introduction which is suitable for grade one of senior high middle school. The paper adopted the methods of tests, questionnaires and classroom observation. Based on the scientific analysis of the data collected from the tests and questionnaires, the results reflected that:1. Cultural introduction can arouse students’interest in English learning and enhance their self-confidence. What is more, it will mobilize students’ learning initiative。2. Cultural introduction can to a certain degree improve students’ability to use the correct and proper words.3. Cultural introduction can make students understand the similarities and differences between the main English-speaking countries and china in aspect of behavior and the way to get along with people. It also can make students understand the reflection of culture in people’s daily life and people’s values. It can deepen students’understanding of the English-speaking countries’custom and social values. All these can strength students’communicational competence.
