Abstract

Malignant mesothelioma is a primary malignant tumor derived from mesothelial cells, which have the characteristics of high-invasive, high mortality. The purpose of this study is to investigate the p16, p53, PCNA, VEGF and clinical biological behavior and prognosis of malignant mesothelioma organization to find sensitive and specific prognostic indicator for early diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma treatment and evaluation of patients provide clues to prognosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: SP assay People's Liberation Army General Hospital from January 1984 to January 2004, 60 patients with malignant mesothelioma specimens. Analysis of p16, p53, PCNA, VEGF expression with histological type, clinical stage, and the lifetime of the relationship. The experimental results of Wilcoxon test was used for univariate analysis, the onset of the Kaplan-Meier product-limit method and life table survival analysis, fitting Cox regression model for multivariate statistical analysis of prognostic factors. Significance level of 0.05. Results: 1.p16 protein immune histochemical stain positive expression rate was 33.3% (20/60), negative expression rate was 66.7% (40/60); significant difference (p of p16 protein positive expression rates in different tissue types lt; 0.05); of p16 protein expression with malignant mesothelioma clinical stage increased reduced, p16 expression of positive and negative groups of patients, the average survival time (months), and the 95% confidence interval were 26.7 (24.1 , 29.3), 14.5 (12.6,16.4). patients with malignant mesothelioma survival was significantly greater than in patients with negative expression of p16 protein expression, significant difference (P lt; 0.05). 2.p53 immunohistochemical staining positive expression rate was 65.0% (39/60). p53 positive expression ratio in different clinical stages with a significant difference (P lt; 0.05). The expression of p53 positive and negative groups of patients, the average survival time (months) and 95% confidence interval were 17.2 (15.0,19.5) 21.0 (16.5,25.5). The positive expression of patient survival compared to patients with negative expression is decreasing, but they was no significant difference (P gt; 0.05). 3.PCNA immunohistochemical staining positive expression rate was 93.3% (56/60), the high expression rate was 61.7% (37/60). High expression group and the average survival time of patients with low expression group (months) and 95% confidence intervals were 16.4 (13.9,18.9) 22.0 (18.5,25.6). PCNA high expression of patient survival was significantly less than in patients with low expression, significant difference (P lt; 0.05). 4.VEGF immunohistochemical staining positive expression rate was 66.7% (40/60). VEGF expression of positive and negative groups of patients, the average survival time (months) and 95% confidence intervals were 16.7 (14.4,
