Abstract


With the development of the technology of computer networks and the worldwide popularity of Internet, the scale of computer networks is getting larger and larger; the structure of network is becoming so complex. The demand of network discovery becomes more urgent. The network topology discovery is an very important component in the network management. Correct network topology information can effectively provide the whole network structure and the states to the network administrator. It is a common issue for many network institutes to obtain network topology information quickly and accurately. The purpose of this thesis in this paper is to study the technique of topology discovery, and improve on the question of the old algorithms and implement an accurate topology information discovery system on this condition.In this paper, firstly the related knowledge concepts and commonly-used technology about network topology discovery is introduced and an analysis and general comparison among them are maked. Final conclusion is that the algorithm of network topology discovery based on SNMP is the most fast and widely used algorithm.It designs a complete network management system, and carries out a detailed design and implementation ahout topology discovery module in topology management. In an in-depth research and analysis of various algorithms, the link layer topology discovery algorithm based on the spanning tree, and the network layer topology discovery algorithm based on SNMP, and then improving the two topology discovery algorithm. Finally, the study is summarized and further work can be carried out.
