Abstract

There are tow kinds of obvious tendencies to the spreading and developing study about Chinese myths in the academic circles for many years. One focuses, on the vertical study to the myths, which describes the spreading and developing track of certain myths, but the macroscopic crosswise study is few .The other focuses, on the spreading and developing surface appearance, however, the study on the spreading and developing reason is few. The focuses cause the spreading and developing of myths divorced from cultural tradition.In the long procedure to the spreading and developing of Chinese myths, Han dynasty is the reactive period for Chinese myths, the golden age for the spreading and developing.This thesis is written from the historical and whole perspective, putting myths in Han dynasty into the particular historical background, through mastering its age features and seeking age reasons from social background, try to outline this epoch-making significant artistic phenomenon.Demonstrating and analyzing this view will have four points. Firstly, through considering myths in Han dynasty wholly, introduce their position, level and carrier generally. Secondly, the spreading and developing of myths in Han dynasty has age features: On God spirits, they tend to goodness and avoid evil. Han dynasty emphasizes on the kindness, moreover, describes the charity of thekindhearted Gods and the blessing to the human; on the position, they belong to outside conquer, the leading roles of the myths enslave the Gods, drive the mystical animals and control the nature; on the emotion, they have complements from both sexes, or mating between tow Gods, or mating between the human and the God; on the nature, they have fairy tendency, the changes of the essence are profound and extensive; on the color, they own political utility, deify monarchy for serving Han dynasty. The age features of Han dynasty’s myths constitute an integral entity with the tremendous force, thought and mentality of the social at that time. Thirdly, from the age reasons to see, the age features are four sides’ results, which are era political atmosphere, thoughts and culture, the tendency to the social mentality, influence from personal ideology. It indicates that the age features of Han dynasty’s myths are a kind of surface for the changes of the factors of the time. Finally, it is no doubt that myths in Han dynasty have deep influence because they set up the model and the patter which can be imitated by later generations’ myths.
