Abstract


Objective: To investigate the expression of the glutathione S-transferase-π(GST-π) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in renal carcinoma and para-tumor kidney tissue,and the factors influence the tumorigenesis,progression and biological behaviour.Methods: The expressions of VEGF and GST-πin 48 cases of renal carcinoma were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR, while 45 cases of para-tumor kidney tissue were served as the control group. The correlation between the expression of GST-π,VEGF and clinicopathological parameters was analyzed.Result: (1)The GST-πwas expressed in 41/48 renal carcinoma samples and 15/45 para-tumor kidney tissue samples.VEGF was expressed in 33/48 renal carcinoma samples and 5/45 para-tumor kidney tissue samples.There was no statistically significant correlation between GST-πor VEGF expression and gender, age, staging, (P>0.05).(2) The transcription of GST-πmRNA or VEGFmRN in renal carcinoma was higher than those in para-tumor kidney tissue samples(P<0.05).Conclusion: GST-πand VEGF are over-expressed in various degrees in renal carcinoma without chemotherapy, and they may be related to the primary multidrug resistance and aggressiveness of the tumors.
