Abstract


Architecture and city are materialized human civilization, and a cultural phenomena. Studying architecture and city can not disengage certain historical and cultural background. This article starts with analyzing era feature of nowadays, pointing out the sameness phenomena of architecture and city and the street life are gradually disappearing in this globalization time, then elucidating the significance of keeping and creating diversified urban street space. Keeping and creating diversified urban street space, one side is the whole street space, forming its own feature through diversity designing, reveal the distinction between it and the other streets; the other side is the plentiful diversity of its material element, ambience and street life. These kinds of diversity can satisfy people’s multiple demand.Street has been considered main object of urban design since Camillo Sitte’s study, and it is the main open space of traditional Chinese cities. Through looking back the evolvement history of Chinese and foreign street space ,the article analyzes how the political, economic and cultural feature influenced the structure of street space in certain historical environment. And in the base of retrospecting and expecting the idea of the urban design ,the thesis also offers the strategy and design method of keeping and creating street space diversity of China’s cities nowadays. In the end, put the study in the practice combining project.
