Abstract


Britain’s relationship with European integration is very special. Due to the fast-changing situation of the world and Europe, Britain has adjusted its isolated and negative policy on European affairs, and adopted a constructive stance towards European Union. Either Major or Blair has regarded Britain’s immersion into the European Union as their aims in order to play a leading role. At the same time, the numbers of contradictions had aroused between France and Germany because of Germany’s pursuit of preponderance in European Union, the role played by the ’Franco-German Engine’ is greatly reduced, which provides a good opportunity for Britain to enter the core of European Union, substituting ’Franco-German cooperative Hegemony’ with a ’German-Franco-British Triangle Axis’ . Owning to Britain’s specified history and diplomatic traditions, the author thinks, its participation in EU’s Power-dominated Regime differs in different fields. Generally speaking, Britain’s enthusiasm is high and the degree of participation is deep in those fields which are not or less related to sovereignty transfer. Currently, German-Franco-British Triangle Axis has virtually established in the field of Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP); In terms of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), Britain’s voice has been sharply weakened because its choice of ’opt-out’ on the third phase of EMU— staying out of the euro zone. As to the Justice and Home affairs closely related to the national sovereignty, no trilateral cooperation among Germany, France and Britain exists under the institution of EU. There is much bilateral cooperation between them. Curbed by a series of factors home and abroad, there is still a long way for Britain to go before its entering the core of EU policy-making and sharing the ’Dominance Power’ with Germany and France.
