Abstract


Nowadays the Internet has become a valuable business carrying network. It has to provide the required QoS (Quality of Service) and the maintenance management of the service over it. The traffic which accesses into the Internet should be controlled on the edge routers to ensure the flow rate below the processing limit of the network devices. Network processor, with its well combination of the flexible software application design and effective hardware transmitting ability, is a programmable device which is specially designed for IP network, acting as the pivotal technology of the new generation network devices.To solving the network congestion in Metropolitan Area Network, which has strong burst traffic and complex traffic mode, this thesis gives out a project called AUTMS (Adaptive User Traffic Management System) to adjust the traffic automatically, avoiding the traffic congestion. First, the paper introduces the characteristic of NP, the theory of QoS and the reason of network congestion. Then, it illustrates the details of the main system part UTM and the algorithm of core technology CAR (Committed Access Rate) , and then it is focus on the NP based Microcode Module of the system, showing the details of the software design. At last, the test results show that the system can work well in rate limiting, reaching 2.5G processing ability and satisfying the system design requirements.
