Abstract

In the ultra-high speed optical communication, the signals will be distorted by variable factors including PMD, GVD, XPM, SPM, FWM and so on. And all these would jeopardize the optical signal pulse, as a result, leading to drastic increasing of the Error rates and then limit the propagating distance of the signals. All-Optical 3R Regeneration (Re-amplifying, Re-Shaping, Re-Timing) of the optical signals during transmission would substantially increase the transmission distance of the optical signals. As able to overcome the defects of Electronic 3R Regeneration of the signals, All-Optical 3R Regeneration will be an effective way to maintain the integrity of the signals in all-optical network in the future. In addition, another advantage of the all-optical regeneration is that, unlike the electronic method, it can process multi-wavelength signals simultaneously. All-optical decision is one critical technique of the important techniques of the achievement of All-optical 3R regeneration. Among the variable nonlinear effects, optical Parametric Amply(OPA), featured as ultra-speed response high signal gain and wide flatten gain-width, is a hot research area involving All-optical multi-wavelength conversion and all-optical multi-wavelength regeneration worldwide. In this thesis, some research about single-pump optical Parametric Amply (OPA) was investigated, and then the investigation of the all-optical decision technique based on fiber optical Parametric Amply (FOPA) was carried out, which settled the experiment foundation to the multi-wavelength 3R All-optical regeneration.Theoretical analysis of fiber optical Parametric Amply (FOPA), in particular, the phase-match condition was detailed investigated, and then investigated the gain property of optical Parametric Amply (OPA). And certain important nonlinear effects of optical fiber, including Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS), Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS), Self-Phase Modulation (SPM), Cross-Phase Modulation (XPM) and Four-Wave Mixing (FWM), were introduced. The way that phase-modulation of Pump impact the spectrum of Pump which laid experimental basis for the later experiments was investigated. Then the correlations between gain characteristics of fiber optical parametric amplifier (FOPA) and Pump wavelength, Pump power and the length of High nonlinear Optical Fiber (HNLF) were analyzed. Additionally, optical-switch property of fiber optical parametric amplifier (FOPA) was verified, which serves us to get the IO curve of the signals. We make use of the phenomenon of HNLF-OPA to achieve single-wavelength 10bps all-optical decision and Asynchronous dual-wavelength 10Gbps all-optical decision experimentally. Intensity modulated Pump was used in the single-wavelength 10bps all-optical decision system and the performance of this all-optical decision system was evaluated in detail through three parts of the input deteriorated signal embracing different wavelengths, different transmission distance before regeneration and different signal to noise ratio (SNR). A novel scheme of Asynchronous dual-wavelength 10Gbps all-optical decision based on phase modulated Pump was proposed so as to inhibit Cross-Phase Modulation (XPM) among different communication channels effectively. In particular, Four Waves Mixing among different channels need to inhibition in the novel Asynchronous dual-wavelength all-optical decision scheme, so we proposed to set the polarization state of the adjacent-channels to be orthogonal to inhibit the Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) effects among different channels.
