Abstract


This paper uses the research methodology, such as literature review, interview and case study, etc., to study the current situation of and the challenges facing grassroots innovators to diffuse their innovations. Based on this, we propose the policy suggestions.Grassroots innovations are usually simple in technique, easy to be copied by the others. So it is very difficult for the innovators to protect their IPRs. Although grassroots innovations are easily to be learned and adopted, the diffusion area is very limited due to their relatively strong local features. Grassroots innovators usually set up small workshops to sell their products. They also participate into exhibitions, etc. and the main diffusion channel of grassroots innovation is through the word of mouth.The main challenges of the diffusion of grassroots innovations are such as, the innovators usually with little education, so they don’t much knowledge on marketing skills, ect.; government did not pay enough attention to the importance of grassroots innovation and support is not enough and inefficient; diffusion channels are very limited.Based on this research, we propose the following suggestions:1, grassroots innovators need to learn related knowledge and the government organizations need to offer training courses to the innovators; 2, the policies promoting grassroots innovations’diffusion need to be further developed; 3, grassroots innovators need to further link with formal sectors, such as research institutes, universities, etc., to mature the techniques and make them easily to be accepted by the market. Media also needs to report the grassroots innovations and innovators to promote the diffusion.
