Abstract


The study on the relationship between financial development and economic growth is the core of the theory of financial development. The domestic and foreign scholars did a lot of studies on this issue. However, foreign studies almost focused on the level of the whole nation. Domestic studies also just made empirical analysis which was based on the data of the whole nation or provinces, not considering the tremendous differences in financial development among different areas.As the centre of Bohai Rim Area, Tianjin has achieved fast development in recent years. In 2006, the Tianjin Binhai New Area was approved by the State Council as Comprehensive Reform Test Area. The key focus is to become the test area of financial reform, and the target is to construct the modern financial services system which will adapt the northern economic centre, radiating the neighboring provinces and cities. The regional financial development in Tianjin is facing a golden opportunity. In the context, the paper will empirically analyze the relationship between the regional financial development and economic growth of Tianjin for providing reference to the reform and innovation. Simultaneously, it will promote the economic coordinated development of "Bohai Rim Area", "Yangtze River Delta" and "Zhujiang River Delta". Therefore, the paper has practical significance.At first, the paper summarizes domestic and foreign researches, and analyzes the basic theory. Next, describes the financial and economic status quo of Tianjin. Then through using co-integration analysis and Granger causality test, empirically researches the relationship between the financial development and economic growth in Tianjin, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Through empirical research and contrast analysis, we draw a conclusion that Tianjin’s economic growth has positive relationship with the expanding of financial scale, the improvement of financial agency efficiency and the increasing of real interest rate; Tianjin’s economic growth has inverse relationship with the increasing in rate of household savings deposit. Tianjin’s economic growth has promoted the expansion of its financial scale, but there’s no causal relationship between economic growth and other aspects of financial development, which indicates that the type of financial development of Tianjin is "Demand-Following".Based on empirical conclusion, Tianjin should exert supply-oriented finance-leading strategy to accelerate regional financial development and stimulate regional economic growth. The concrete measures should include several aspects, such as regional financial ecological environment, financial markets, financial institutions, financial services, financial support to SMEs, and regional financial cooperation, etc.
