Abstract

Background and objective:It is a well-known fact that clean water is absolutely essential for healthy living. Adequate supply of fresh and clean drinking water is a basic need for all human beings on the earth, while polluted water like organic chemicals in drinking water causes health problem. As to pollution, people pay close attention to organic chemical pollutants since its pollution to water is severe.Epidemiological observations and laboratory studies have indicated that organic chemicals in drinking water are toxic, and have the potential to injure human reproductive health. Pollution of water resource in Chongqing city is severe compare to other cities in our country. The research conducted by our department recently has found that OE (organic extract) from drinking water of Chongqing can cause damage to male mice reproductive system. However, there is little information regarding influence of OE on female reproductive activity. Consequently, the present study was designed to investigate the adverse effects of OE on various reproductive parameters of female mice. The kind and level of OE in tap water in Chongqing city was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS), and the reproductive toxicity of them was studied with Kunming mouse. Thought of the antioxidation and antimutagenicity of tea polyphenols (TP), we also studied whether TP can reduce the reproductive toxicity of organic pollutants of tap water to female Kunming mouse.Methods:2900 liters of tap water samples were filtered and pumped through XAD-2 resin columns in the laboratory. The resin that enriched OE was extracted with three solvents with different polarity and analysis was carried out by GC/MS. The quantitative analysis of DBP was also conducted.Mice that exhibited normal estrous cycles were divided into six groups randomly.
