Abstract


A stem cell is a cell that has the ability to divide (self replicate) for indefinite periods—often throughout the life of the organism. Under the right conditions, or given the right signals, stem cells can give rise (differentiate) to the many different cell types that make up the organism. That is, stem cells have the potential to develop into mature cells that have characteristic shapes and specialized functions. The term "neural stem cell" is used loosely to describe cells that (i) can generate neural tissue or are derived from the nervous system, (ii) have some capacity for self-renewal, and (iii) can give rise to cells other than themselves through asymmetric cell division. The nature neural stem cell self-renewal can be regulated by many factors, mainly lies in inside and outside. Internal factors are cell factors that affect cell cycle, for example Notch signaling、 Math gene families、 gp130/JAK/stat3、 BMP signaling pathway. At present, the research laid particular emphasis on cell factors and inside environment signaling. And, the different kinds of cell factors, the different kinds of concentration, and combine several kinds of its have different function in neural stem cells.
