Abstract


The warfare verse is one of the important verse types in the Book of Songs. This thesis attempts to give the synthetic study to the warfare verse from cultural and artistic aspect, on the basis of inheriting and synthesizing the present research result. Emphasize a study on the definition of warfare verse of The Book of Songs, the type and the emotion tendency of warfare verse of The Book of Songs, the writing features and the national culture psychology expressed through it, the art creation of the warfare verse of The Book of Songs etc, in the hope of carrying forward somewhat to this subject study.Writer considers, the former definition of the warfare verse of The Book of Songs has been fixed too broadly or narrowly. The warfare verse ought to be defined as lyrics, its contents must be related to the war and its subject should also be the soldiers or military officers (including kings) who directly participated in the war. The so-called the warfare verse of The Book of Songs, takes these soldiers or military officers (including kings) praise and express their living condition and emotional experience in the war career as the subject.According to the different characteristics in the contents and emotional tendency, the warfare verse is divided into four kinds of types: First,“the ode”warfare verse which recalls and praises the ancestral military accomplishments of getting rid of tyranny or establishing new dynasty; Second,“the military song”warfare verse which expresses emotional experience of the emperor, the feudal lord, the general and soldiers, in the war of putting down the revolt, resisting invasion, supporting the disadvantaged and struggling against violence; Third,“the dirge”warfare verse which expresses the troubled thoughts and grieve that the warfare brought to general and soldiers; Fourth,“the critique”warfare verse which expresses the satistic and critical emotion.The warfare verse of The Book of Songs also manifest the Chinese national cultural psychology about war, such as thinking highly of war morality and justice, advocating justice and humanity spirit, hating to leave hometown and loving peace etc.The warfare verse of The Book of Songs also have marvoaous accomplishment in the artistic creation, examplied through four parts in the fourth chapter. First, duplicated phrase and reiterative sentence and emotion maneuver under the influence of singing and expressing characteristics; Second, the space-time processing that is fit for the sentiment of recalling and worrying to pass through; Third, description and expression crisscross each other ; Fourth, the individual expressing tone and community’s manstesting emotion.
