Objective: To study the changes of activity of circulating renin- angiotensin-aldosterone system(RAAS) in rheumatic mitral valve stenosis patients with and without atrial fibrillation,and discuss the relation of circulating renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system(RAAS) and atrial fibrillation.Methods: 11 normal subjects were selected as the normal control (NC) group,including 4 males and 7 females.The average age is 38.4±11 years old(18～59 years old).There were 55 patients with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis enrolled, 14 patients of that is male,41 patients of that is female. The average age is 39.48±10.30 years old(20～63 years old). According to patients with and without atrial fibrillation,they were divided into two groups: sinus rhythm group(SR group,25 cases)and atrial fibrillation group(AF group,30 cases).The plasma concentration of Renin, Ang II and ALD were measured by the method of radioimmunoassay(RIA).Results: The average value of the left atrial diameter in AF group was significantly greater than that of both SR group and NC group, elevated 16.9%(56.69±6.89mmVS 48.48±5.05mm, p<0.01) and 87.3%(56.69±6.89mmVS 30.18±2.85mm, p<0.01)respectively.Compared with NC group,that of SR group was also significantly greater, elevated 60.6%(48.48±5.05mm VS30.18±2.85mm,p<0.01).The plasma level of RA, Ang II and ALD in AF and SR patients was significantly higher than the plasma level of those in NC subjects(p<0.01),and compared with SR patients ,the plasma level of those in AF patients was also significantly increased(p<0.01～0.03).Course of diseases in
