Abstract


In the field of pragmatics, apologies for the research has been the concern of many scholars. In J.Holmes, Meier as the representative of the \harmony. However, the Chinese Context apology behavior is not entirely consistent with this theory, Chinese apology contains has its special cultural connotation and profound meaning. This paper aims at comparing Chinese and (American) English apology strategies used and the choice to understand the similarities and differences, to explore the essence of Chinese characteristics and an apology. In addition, this paper, the \Specific research questions are as follows: 1. What is different from the Chinese Apology special form of American English? 2. Apology in Chinese language and the (American) English Apology comparison, the extent, there is much difference, specifically in the use of which strategies? 3. Education whether the factors affecting use of apology strategies? Author uses \Five kinds of scenes from everyday life, the occurrence of sites include: the bus, in the classroom, company, office, home. Apology apology and those who were involved in the relationship: strangers, classmates, superiors and subordinates, friends and family. A total of 208 respondents were divided into four groups - Chinese students, Chinese workers, American college students, the American worker. The first group of 70 Chinese students, Zhejiang University is one, two year non-English majors; second group of 34 Chinese workers, Zhejiang University staff in various positions, including school security, cleaners, school supermarket shopping guide; The third group of 70 American college students who are U.S. Central College freshman, sophomore; fourth group of 34 American workers, their place of work distributed in schools, hospitals and factories. Through the four groups surveyed corpus collection and classification, the conclusion is as follows: 1. The existence of Chinese Apology American English is different from the special form of apology, apology strategies embodied in the use of frequencies. 2. Apology in Chinese language and the (American) English Apology compared to Chinese people prefer apology apology or prefer to use a variety of strategies, reflected in the apology strategy use higher frequencies than the Americans, but for seven kinds of apology strategies popularity, the Chinese and Americans have greater similarity. 3. Education does affect the apology strategies used in Chinese and American English are present in the following phenomena, namely: the higher the educational level, the more likely the use of more sophisticated apology strategies, and vice versa.
