Abstract

As a kind of ancient literature form, The allegory,which has been used successively by Benjamin, Lukacs, Adorno and Jameson,ect.,has gained a powerful new life in the field of literature theory in the 20th century. By utilizing allegory as a tool to study literature and art , these researchers can often achieve amazing effects . However,in China , it is still a subject which has not been studied thoroughly from the angle of the allegory. The writer attempts to analyse three collections of Lu Xun’s novels in the view of allegory, and after that it tries to illustrate the conformation,the existence of the allegory in Lu Xun’s novel as well as the allegorical attribute, so we could grasp the allegorical attribute in Lu Xun’s novels.This thesis is divided into five parts altogether. We have analysed the different illustrasions about the allegory and the attribute of it both in Chinese and foreign literature in the foreword. One thing we must note is that the concept of the allegorical attribute used in this thesis refers to "a kind of artistic technique of expression which the author uses in the process of conceiving and composing the article, by which the author could always lay a profound meaning behind the narration written in word." In Chapter One we explain two questions mainly: Whether there is the existence of allegory in Lu Xun’s novels or not and two kinds of the allegorical attribute -National allegory and Hominine allegory. In this chapter we know that the attribute of the allegory does exists in Lu Xun’s novel,further more the literature world whose center is the town of Lu in the novel surely is a vivid portraiture of the centralized country. In second part,we point out the second form of the allegorical attribute -hominine allegory,meanwhile we point out that Lu Xun revealed people’s plight in a unfriendly environment by the living states of the person in low status , the intellectual and the ancient hero. That is to say Lu Xun’s novel forms the huminie allegory. In Chapter Two,we explains the formulation of the allegorical attribute in Lu Xun’s novel: adopting the allegorical attribute to compose novels is a style which Lu Xun learned both from foreign literature and Chinese classical literature,meanwhile it was also a combined effect made of his profound comprehension of the evil society as well as his unique ways of creative thinking.In Chapter Three,we explains the value of the significance in Lu Xun’s novel: The existence of the attribute of the allegory enables Lu Xun’s novels to surmount all the contemporary writer’s works both in scope and in profundity, and it aslo influenced the latecomer’s creation, we can say that the existence in a large amount of modern novels must have close relations with the attribute of the allegory in Lu Xun’s novel. In the conclusive part,we point out through further analysis that the existence of the attribute of the allegory makes Lu Xun’s novel as a whole in the first place, further more the using of the attribute of the allegory in Lu Xun’s novels enriched the concept of ancient allegory, and the allegorical attribute not merely exists in Lu Xun’s novel, it aslo exists in a large amount in Lu Xun’s other literary works.The research of the attribute of the allegory can be extended to the field of Lu Xun’s essay, prose poem and memoir, only in this way , can we extend the study of the attribute of allegory in Lu Xun’s novels into a much wider field.
