Abstract


Intense conflict and confrontation between traditional and modern had occurred in school moral education of England and the focus had been shifted from religion and authority indoctrination to science and secularization. The author intends to draw the track through which the current moral education system is evolving in England. This essay shows the unique feather of school moral education and the interaction of school moral education with society.This essay consists of three parts. The first probes the history of school moral education; the second tells the present situation of school moral education; the third summarizes the characteristic, and looks forward to the future of school moral education.Before the Second World War, religious education and classical gentlemen education had basically dominated school moral education of England. With the social development and progress in science and technology, the religious education and the classical gentlemen education had gone downhill. A series of governmental reports and document of the postwar shows that the educational circles focuses on the development of qualities of individual student and society, and the orient of school moral education is transformed into science and secularization.Nowadays, religious and secular characterize the school moral education. The traditional religious education and collective worship still hold a steady position. In recent years, personal and social education, and citizenship education occupy an important position in the field of school moral education. School moral education of England is brought into operation in many ways, including other courses, school ethos, students’ teamwork and family education. The socialization and network of education will be developed. The current moral education of England has the follow fundamental contents, including humanism, freedom, and equality and rational, which are the start point. Moreover, love for peace, and protection of environment have become a new theme of school moral education of England.
