Abstract


The theory of leading industry was born in the 1960s. Scholars of different countries make investigation and give definitions separately. So far the theory has been developped maturer.On the basis of the formers, the author select relevant indexes and set up a sort of indicator system in view of data attainability. Adopting principal components analysis, the penman filter leading industry of shanghai primary founded on statistical yearbooks and input-output tables. After that five leading industries are confirmed considering Shanghai’s ecnomic level.We gain a conclusion that the leading industries chosen are incomplete competitive internationally, though competitive internally. There is a big gap between China and developped countries, in particular international competitive capacity. In the process of cooperation we don’t acquire core technology in the majority of cases which means our independence and results in leading industries’ incompetence directly. Furthermore, shanghai is now facing a lot of disadvantageous ingredients to economic advance. For the future, we should pay attention to cultivating persons with ability , obtaining intellectual property right and changing our means of economic increase. So and so only, leading indusrtry could grow persistently and heathily. So does the whole economy.
