Abstract

Objective: To observe the metabolic syndrome (MS) in patients with cardiovascular remodeling changes in the morphology and function of the carotid artery characteristics: explore carotid intima - media thickness and ventricular remodeling in metabolic syndrome . Methods : 216 hospitalized patients , divided into the metabolic syndrome group (MS, 110 patients) , in patients with hypertension (EH, 57 cases) and diabetic group (DM , 49 patients) . MS diagnosis based on the diagnostic criteria of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF2005 ) . Doppler echocardiographic measurement of left ventricular end-diastolic left ventricular internal diameter (LVDd), end-diastolic left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPWT), end-diastolic interventricular septum thickness (IVST), and calculated left ventricular weight ( LVM ) , left ventricular mass index (LVMI) and left ventricular relative thickness (RLVT). And the vertical and horizontal scanning probe set neck , measuring carotid intima - media thickness (IMT) and carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque plaque incidence of each group were calculated . Results : 1 ) The MS group IVST, LVPWT, PLVT significantly greater than the DM group and EH group (P <0.01 or P <0.05 ) , the EH group than in the DM group (P <0.05) [PLVT: MS group (0.43 ± 0.08 ) than the DM group (0.39 ± 0.05), MS group (0.43 ± 0.08) than the EH group ( 0.39 ± 0.06 ) , P < 0.05 ] ; LVDd of the MS group and EH group LVM , LVMI was significantly higher than the DM group (P <0.01 P <0.05 ) , the MS group and EH group between the two groups showed no significant difference (P> 0.05) [LVMI: MS group ( 45.63 ± 11.27 ) g / m 2.7 < / sup > than the DM group ( 32.54 ± 8.75 ) g / m 2.7 p < 0.01, MS group (45.63 ± 11.27) g / m 2.7 than the EH group (41.43 ± 11.82) g / m 2.7 , P > 0.05 ] ; 2 ) MS group IMT was significantly thicker than the DM group and EH group [ IMT : MS group (0.95 ± 0.22) mm than the DM group (0.77 ± 0.29) mm and MS group (0.95 ± 0.22) mm than the EH group ( 0.86 ± 0.31 ) mm , P < 0.01] . MS group carotid atherosclerotic plaques was 58.15% , significantly higher than the DM group ( 42.52 % ) ( P <0.05 ) : MS group ( 58.15% ) and EH group ( 54.36% ) between the two groups was not statistically significance (P> 0.05); 3) MS group IMT and LVMI was positively correlated with r = 0.281 (P <0.01). Conclusion: The metabolic syndrome, left ventricular hypertrophy and carotid atherosclerosis than simple hypertension and diabetes, the more severe carotid artery disease , MS patients with carotid artery - in film thickness and left ventricular mass index was positively correlated .
