Abstract


\In the novel, Oates in the first person about a lonely female students prayed for the warmth and love. The novel use of psychological monologue reveals the inner world of the hero pondered long and hard. The novel is autobiographical novel, Oates' own experiences written into the novel, more realistic depiction of the hero's experience. The novel since its publication, has attracted the attention of many critics. Previous research has focused on the novel in the ethical point of view and analysis of the language, this paper analyzes the basic growth structure of the novel, the use of the theoretical interpretation of the growth of the heroine of the United States Thomas Jeffs and other Bildungsroman and insight. Although experienced motherly and fatherly failed to find the hero of psychological growth. Which contains a lot of thinking, considerable research value of life and human nature. This paper is divided into six parts. The introductory section is a brief description of the author, work content, and works at home and abroad were summarized and which leads to the purpose and significance of this study. The first chapter describes the history of the Bildungsroman rheological analysis of the characteristics of a Bildungsroman. Selective introduction to the the Bildungsroman theory of Thomas Jeffs, and thus lay the foundation for the interpretation of the theme of this growth. Main conclusion to make summarizing the preceding discussion, pointed out that the human behind the theme of lost self and pursue the life prospects and significance. Of the growth process the Bildungsroman theory mode, while the hero quest the Bildungsroman theory and American Thomas Jeffs mutual fit.
