Explanatory sentence group, as a common type of the modern Chinese sentencegroup system, is the structural relationship of two or more sentences in the sentencegroup, usually the latter sentence explaining, supplying and limiting the formersentence.The paper defines the sentence group and explanatory sentence group firstly; itconsiders the explanatory sentence group is made up of two or more sentences withexplanatory relations or language fragments, usually separated by periods.Explanatory sentence group can be divided into prescriptive, extended, illustrative,commentary, supplementary, conclusive, descriptive types and so on according to itsinternal sentence structures and semantic relations. The main combination methods ofthe explanatory sentence group are associated words, associated small sentences andthe sentences with no specific form mark. Quoting authoritative works can improveunderstanding and expression ability, as well as can scientifically and accuratelyinterpret the definition and concept; Illustrative explanatory sentence group listingfacts as eloquent proof can enhance persuasion. Explanatory sentence group oftenamalgamates with many figures, such as metaphor, anadiplosis, rhetoric question; itcan strengthen the rhetorical effects and make the statements more vivid and moreexpressive.The paper at last analyzes the levels and internal structure relations of themultiple explanatory sentence groups which include hypotaxis forms, parataxis formsand digital forms.
