Abstract


With the development of financial industry, especially the banking sector, the demand for talents is growing. It is important for practitioners of such fields to master the related business contract, in order to make use of the foreign investment more effectively. There are various channels to make use of the foreign investment. The most important one is buyer’s credit (abbreviated as BC). Mastering the stylistic features of the contracts will, in an effective way, help the people to know how to formulate and translate English buyer’s credit.This thesis mainly introduces the cohesion theory proposed by Halliday and Hasan in their monograph Cohesion in English (1976), taking advantage of which the author tries to make detailed analysis on the buyer’s credit. Within the process of the analysis, it briefly introduces the similarities and differences between BC and other business contract before an intensive study on BC from the perspective of cohesion and coherence. The study of cohesion perspective consists of the grammar and lexical cohesion approaches with the former mainly referring to the reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and so on and the latter to the repetition and collocation and so forth. The study of coherence perspective consists of internal and external conditions that influence the coherence of a text.The present study attempts to reveal the features of buyer’s credit thoroughly in business correspondence with a wider significance both in the teaching of business English and in the scope of related stylistic analysis.
