Abstract


Hawthorne is one of America's most distinguished romanticists of the 19th century , is one of the founders of American literature . \The archetypal criticism and psychology analysis reveals Hawthorne in the shaping of \Hawthorne use in the shape of three hero the Bible opposed prototype , and the use of these contradictions prototype reflect different attitudes between good and evil in the Puritan . By the analysis of ambivalence development process of the three main characters , Hawthorne expose Puritan cruel torture of human nature , and the hypocrisy of Puritanism . The contradiction between the use of the prototype , and the ambiguous attitude of Puritanism reflected in critical Puritanism cruel and cold at the same time , Hawthorne still use the Puritan dogma figures as a measure of the value of the standard . The root cause of these contradictions is the Hawthorne I complex religious ideas : on the one hand , by the ancestors and the impact of the social environment , he inevitably has some characteristics of the Puritans ; On the other hand , he could not agree with the Puritan theocracy in thinking , and severely criticized , so he is both a Puritan and an anti- fundamentalist .
