Informal science education, as an important form of science education system, plays an important role in the education of teenagers. In recent years, the study of informal science education is becoming more and more mature. So the purpose of this paper is to do a comprehensive study for the informal science education, by the theory and empirical research method.Firstly, the historical development and theoretical basis of informal science education will be present, as well as its irreplaceable place in teenagers’ science education, and its evaluation system; Chapter5is mainly about the empirical research, a survey is conducted to research the status of informal science education of teenagers in Beijing, the quantitative statistical methods are used for data processing; Finally, for the conclusion part, in view of the whole research, conclusions are drew and suggestions are given.Through this paper, we can clearly find the international theory research in recent decades for informal science education. After it is raised by foreign researchers for the first time since the19th century, the informal science education begin to enter people’s vision, the United States, as the leader in the field, has established a relatively perfect system of informal science education, NSF has given the research a great support, the research in other countries also are notable, the China Association for Science and Technology has made a significant contribution to the development of the research in this field, through many science popularization activities. In empirical study,367students in6middle schools are investigated, to figure out the current situation of informal science education in Beijing. On the basis of the study, some suggestions have been put forward.(1) Teachers should pay more attention to STS;(2) We should make full use of the Internet and TV;(3) Some of the professional scientific and technical places should be more open to the students;(4) To organize science popularization activities on account of students’ feature.
