In the early days of New China, CPC central committee didn’t pay attention to vocational education. General education became the main part of the secondary education. With the development of schools of all types and at all levels, a large number of elementary school and junior school graduates can’t go to a school of a high grade, or have no skills to labor in rural areas. This situation revealed serious crisis result from unreasonable structure of the secondary education at the beginning of the founding. It made professional education development become possible. In addition, because of the expansion of against right-wing struggle, the idea which came from Mao Zedong who wanted to cultivate a large number of proletarian technical talents for the construction of socialism, provides political security for Great Leap Forward of vocational education. Because of the two factors, the reform of vocational education was carried out vigorously in the period of Great Leap Forward.The reform of vocational education in Fujian province is a microcosm of national reform of vocational education in the period of Great Leap Forward. In this period, vocational education was secondary vocational education. This reform was marked by the rapid growth of vocational schools, especially agricultural middle schools in quantity, both full-time and part-time schools in running types, and vocational education and general education as the main parts in educational structure. Under the guidance of policy, the reform developed in the form of mass movement and school running by masses. It emphasized that vocational education served proletarian political and was combined with manufacture and labor.On the one hand, there were achievements of the reform of vocational education in Fujian province during the period of Great Leap Forward. The reform cultivated a large number of technical talents for Fujian province, and was helpful to socialism construction in Fujian province. It optimized the structure of education. There were both vocational education and general education. The reform also insisted on the form of combining full-time schools and part-time schools. This enriched the school forms, and was helpful for students’ study. On the other hand, there were some disadvantages. Vocational schools developed blindly. The quality of teaching was not guaranteed. This caused the educational waste. Too much manufacture and labor affected normal teaching order, and caused the mess of thoughts. It was harmful to the educational quality.Throughout the reform of vocational education in Fujian province during the period of Great Leap Forward, we can draw the following conclusions. Social being restricts the proportion of vocational education and general education. Education will develop blindly only with the subjective will. It will be harmful to social development. The development of vocational education must be planned and prospective. The popularity of vocational schools becomes meaningful if the development of vocational schools reach certain level of quality. Otherwise, only quantity will result in educational waste and poor educational quality. This is worthless.
