Abstract

AIMS:Data collected from the Polar (heart rate) and Metamax3B (VO2, VCO2, metabolic cost) were analyzed through SPSS16.0for Windows, with the target of setting up an Energy Expenditure (E.E.) model for Chinese Citizens (Male).METHODS:246subjects, from Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan, Shanghai and Zhejiang were tested with the CORTEX. The subjects,(aged27.6±10.4yrs, height174.9±6.1cm, weight69.7±9.0kg) were separated into three groups (small body mass group (<65kg), normal group (65-75kg), overweight group (>75kg))according to the cutting points of Percentile30and Percentile70, which were determined by the weight scattering situation in the fitness surveillance of Chinese civilians. The indicators mentioned above were compared among the three groups under different situations (rest,4.8km/h,5.6km/h, and6.4km/h walking).RESULTS:1. Concerning the measuring methods research, the author compared different calorimeters with Metamax3B, which was used in this research, different speed control methods and the subjects recruited by them.2. The tendency of heart rate under different speeds (4.8km/h,5.6km/h,6.4km/h) and rest period as follows: small body mass group>normal group> overweight group. For the VO2, VCO2and metabolic cost, small body mass group<normal group<overweight group, while reverse order showed when they are divided by the subjects’weight.3. A general model fit for the20-59male was set up.CONCLUSIONS:1. after the test, which is the first trial of E.E measurement among large scale of subjects in China, the characteristics of speed-control and quality-insurance were summarized. Methods of collecting data in the "stable phase" and the cutting points of time used to determine the starting or ending of the phase were also tested.2. According to the statistical analyses, the linear relationship between the E.E and the heart rate is not clear, not only grouping by weight, but also by age.3. Under the same speed, the E.E. of different weight groups differs from each other and such differences are significant between certain groups.4. General models of the E.E. of walking (male) were set up.
