Abstract


Along with China’s reform and opening-up, adult education in colleges and universities has played an indispensible role in stepping up the training of talents, promoting economic development and social progress, meeting the on-the-job learners’needs in education, to provide the society with the practical and applied personnel or qualified graduates who will be very skillful in their own positions with brilliant future potential and prospects. Adult education, characterized by the social teaching, the open educational activities, the purposeful educational training, with the integration of academic education and non-academic education, by virtue of its advantages in multiple channels, levels and forms, has occupied a special position in constructing a system of life-long education and a model of study-typed society. The enrollment expansion of universities and the fast development of vocational and technical colleges nowadays have greatly impacted the further development of adult education. As a local university, SASU (Sichuan Universities of Arts and Science) has confronted a series of issues in its adult education development in the current competitive market, such as backward concept, unfixed orientation, indefinite aims, increasing enrollment of colleges and universities, and growth of vocational and technical colleges. Since all have greatly impacted its development, it is essential to reform, otherwise the SASU’s adult education would not develop sustainably. The purpose of this investigative study is to analyze the existing reasons in accordance to the present issues in developing the SASU’s adult education, and establish its developmental goals and countermeasures, based upon the advanced experience of adult education development at home and abroad.Around the theme of investigative researches on the SASU’s adult education development, this thesis is composed of four chapters. In Chapter One, current situations of researches at home and abroad will be stated, with the beginning of the background and significance, and the basic thought and research methods are sorted out, as well as the related theory and concepts on adult education development. Chapter Two elaborates upon the project of investigative research into the SASU’s adult education, which involves the purpose of investigation, the main contents, the object, the way, from the present situation, and the result of investigation is finally concluded comprehensively. In Chapter Three, the advanced experience of adult education development at home and abroad is used for reference, as the practical foundation for the development of adult education in SASU. In the last part, the aim of the SASU’s adult education development is established, with the construction of the diversified operation mechanism of adult education, and a series of measures in adult education developmental systems with connotation characteristic.
