Abstract


The traditional academic exchange approaches can no longer meet the needs of the fast-paced information-sharing. Meanwhile, the daily research work in academic institutions produced a large number of complex, digital files and research publications. Academic institutions have to spend quite a lot of time and effort to collect, collate custody of such documents. On the one hand, it is inconvenient to use such information, and very troublesome for information sharing among various institutions. Under such context, the Institutional Repository has been developed at a rapid speed.First, this paper introduces the domestic and international Institutional Repository background, current situation and future development. Then it explains the significance of the concept of Institutional Repository. And it analyses and elaborates the characteristic and function of Institutional Repository. By close examination of the category of Institutional Repository software, we focus on several common used open source software systems.Secondly, this paper focus on the software of Institutional Repository Dspace detailed introduction, analyses the Dspace system of the three layer structure and its corresponding logic functions. And it detailed discusses the data processing, users and digital object management, browsing and retrieval, statistical functions, subscription services and so on. The third, the paper presents the needs analysis of Soochow University Institutional Repository System; by the study of Dspace, design the system architecture and each module functional requirements of Institutional Repository System. This chapter focuses on the Chinese environment of Dspace, which includes the coding environment settings, e-mail templates speaking, help and other documents speaking. It hopes adjust interface and function optimization of Dspace system through the adjustment and optimization of home page, increase user information, metadata template customization. Then Soochow University Institutional Repository to achieve the basic functions of the system.The author attempts to leverage Soochow University Institutional Repository System construction, in order to keep scientific information of Soochow University in long term, facilitate academic exchange between scholars and knowledge sharing, improve the existing universities and research institutions in the academic status of poor exchange of information effectively.
