Abstract

Shape amphiphiles may be referred to as the shape amphiphilic or asymmetricshape amphiphiles, which have significantly incommensurate shape and competinginteraction. Shape amphiphiles in the self-assembly process have very potentpacking constraints for the shape difference, so that shape amphiphiles are drivedself-assembly by the packing constraints and binding competition between thedifferent components.Currently, most previous researches were focused on the graft to and graft fromfor the synthesis of shape amphiphiles, however, the intramolecular cross-linking hasbeen reported rarely. The paper mainly involves the following two aspects:(1) thesynthesis and self-assembly of shape amphiphiles;(2) researching self-assembly ofshape amphiphiles changed by chain length and quaternization.1. In this research, we research synthesis and self-assembly of shapeamphiphiles. First, Poly(2-(dimethyl amino)ethyl methacrylate)-block-polystyrene(PDMAEMA-b-PS) was synthesized by two-step reversible addition fragmentationchain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The PDMAEMA blocks wereintramolecularly cross-linked by1,4-diiodobutane (DIB) at significantly lowconcentrations, and PS-tethered PDMAEMA single-chain nano-particles wereprepared. The structure of the shape amphiphiles were charactered by Gelpermeation chromatograph and1H-NMR. The morphology of the shape amphiphilesand self-assembly morphology in selective solvents were studied by TEM, AFM andDLS.2.The self-assembly of shape amphiphiles by changing the chain length andquaternization was studied. First, we synthesize the block copolymers(PDMAEMA-b-PS) with different segments and prepare shape amphiphiles withsame proportion of intramolecular cross-linking and different proportionquaternization with CH3I, and study the self-assembly of the shape amphiphiles inwater and cyclohexane.
