Abstract


Polyethylene (PE) pipes with many advantages, such as good toughness, light weight,convenient construction, resistance to low temperature and corrosion, long life of use andeconomic cost, have gradually replaced the traditional steel pipelines and PE pipes have beenwidely used in the transportating field of gas pipeline, and about2000they had be officiallyused in buried pipeline system with the medium pressure gas on the area of Shenzhen. Aboutburied PE gas pipeline, the daily operation and management of patrol inspection focus onpreventing the damage from the third party construction, but gas leakage incidents caused bytermites are paid more attention in the recent years.Unlike other forms of pipeline damage, erosion by termites on PE gas pipeline usuallyaren’t easy to be found. Finally leakages of pipelines appear, such these events haveconcealment. Handling these events and stopping of gas supply will bring great economic lossfor the pipeline operation units and users. If the contact of fire can’t be timely found anddisposed, the serious consequences will happen such as fire and explosion.These events bringthe impact of the economic and reputation for gas enterprises.This project comes from the pipeline accident case eroded by termites. Through theanalysis of statistical information of pipeline geographical position and extend of damage, thehabits of termite and a liquid composition secreted of chewing, and physical and chemicalcharacteristics of pipeline materials and process and soil of pipe buried, we preliminaryanalyse the several hazard factors of the influences of termite erosion on buried PE gaspipeline:①pipe materials,②soil moisture,③the surrounding brightness at night,④theexistence of suitable nesting crevice and pore structure,⑤the existence of cellulose food etc.Researcher further demonstrates the cause of ant invasion through experiments and dataanalysis, and puts forward the corresponding preventive measures to handle the erosionevents on buried PE pipes, according to the different stages of production, laying constructionand operation and maintenance.
