Abstract

Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a common disease in clinic, which seriously affect the quality of the life and the health of the patients. In this study the change of red blood cell in patients withOSAHS after modified-coblation assisted uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) was observed to clarify the correlation between red blood cell and severity of disease in patients with OSAHS and the significance of red blood cell in the clinical prognosis in patients with OSAHS after modified-coblation assisted UPPP.50patients with OSHAS, who visited the otolaryngological department of our hospital from March2011to August2012, were included in this study. Polysomnography(PSG) Monitor was carried, and red blood cell count (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), and hematocrit(HCT) were determined before and after modified-coblation assisted UPPP.50healthy subjects who took the physical examination in the same term were included into Control Group. PSG Monitor was carried, and RBC, HGB, and HCT were determined in50healthy subjects in the same methods. The difference of RBC, HGB and HCT among patients with OSAHS and healthy subjects was analyzed. The correlation between severities of disease and levels of RBC, HGB, and HCT before operation in patients with OSAHS was analyzed. The difference of RBC, HGB and HCT before and after operation was analyzed. The correlation between severities of disease and levels of RBC,HGB, and HCT before operation in patients with OSAHS was analyzed. We can get the results that (1) The age and gender of the patients with OSAHS and healthy subjects were not significantly different(P>0.05), and there were15cases with mild OSAHS,24cases with moderate OSAHS and severe OSAHS,7cases with hypertension and11cases with type2diabetes mellitus in50patients with OSAHS.(2) The levels of RBC, HGB and HCT were significantly higher than those of healthy subjects (P<0.01).(3) The levels of RBC, HGB and HCT before operation were positively correlated to apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) before operation (P<0.01); the levels of RBC, HGB and HCT before operation were negatively correlated to Oxygen saturation (SaO2) before operation (P<0.01).(4) The levels of AHI, RBC, HGB and HCT in6th month after operation were significantly decreased compared with those before operation (P<0.01), but the level of SaO2in6th month after operation was significantly decreased compared with that before operation (P<0.01).(5) The level of RBC before was positively correlated to apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) after operation (P<0.01), and the levels of RBC, HGB and HCT before were negatively correlated to Oxygen saturation (SaO2) after operation (P<0.01).The conclusions are (1) The levels of RBC, HGB and HCT increase in patients with OSAHS, and are related to the severity of disease.(2) Modified-coblation assisted UPPP can improve the AHI and the lowest SaO2, and decrease the levels of RBC, HGB and HCT in patients with OSAHS;(3) The levels of the levels of RBC, HGB and HCT before and after operation are correlated to the efficacy of modified-coblation assisted UPPP.
