Abstract

Obiective To studv the functional anatomv and biomechanics of the ligament s around the shoulder joints in order to evaluate the effects made bv these ligaments on maintaining the stability of the coracoclavicular articulation. Methods 16 male adult acromioclavicular joint specimen were propared draping of soff tissues and carefully exposing acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular ligament under microscope. These specimen were randomly classified into two groups. In group A the 2 ligments were keep in normal condition. While In group B only acromioclavicular ligament was left normal. Each sample was prepared as bone-ligament-bone functional unit. Bony ends being stabilized the specimen were tested on biomechanical mashion. Loading speed was 100mm/min. The results were recorded and were depicted as stress-strain curve by means of computer which was connected to the test machine. Results In group A average strain was 618.10 N, In group B it was 567.97N. Comparison of the two groups was statistically significant (P< 0.05)Conclusion:The data was statistically analyized using the SPSS 16.0 statistical package and T examination was used to make comparison between group A and group B. P<0.05 as statistically significant. Experimental result show that the acromioclavicular ligament is much stronger than that of coracoclavicular ligament. The former is more important in maintain the stability of the acromioclavicular articulations.
