Abstract


The textile industry is the leading industry of the industrialization process in the developed countries; it is also a pillar industry in the developing countries. China is the largest producer, exporter, and consumer country in the world for textile products. The textile industry is a huge contributor to the steady development of the national economy; it also has a long-term influence on the world. To date, the textile industry in China is in a critical period of structural adjustment. A comprehensive comparison of China’s international competitiveness in the textile industry becomes one of the best ways to explore the development of China’s textile industry.A qualitative analysis and empirical research will be used in this research paper to comprehensively evaluate the global competitiveness of China’s textile industry. The qualitative analysis will adopt Michael Porter’s diamond model, evaluating the international competitiveness and competitive advantages and disadvantages through six different aspects, including production factors, demand condition, business strategy, opportunity landscape and government.This research paper is based on Michael porter’s diamond model, and combines Professor Cheng aiwu’s Industrial International Competitiveness Evaluation index system, selecting12groups of secondary indexes and28group of tertiary evaluation index, using the analytic hierarchy process at the same time, build Multi-level evaluation index system in textile industry, and combined with the expert scoring method to ensure the weight of each evaluation index, finally, using the linear weighted method with the above index score to get the final value.In terms of data collection and processing, this research paper chose28groups of related indicators of China’s textile industry during2001-2012, using analytic hierarchy process and the linear weighted method to calculate synthetic appraisal value of international competitiveness in China’s textile industry during2001-2012, thus get the change tendency of the score over the years.The results revealed that China’s textile industry still showed a stronger international competitiveness at present; however, the operating conditions of the enterprise did not get improved. After the financial crisis and European debt crisis, China’s textile industry ushers in new development opportunities.Aim at the shortcomings of the past and the prospect of future development, this research paper came up with targeted policy suggestions and countermeasures based on enterprise, industry and government three different aspects.
