Abstract


With the all-round development of society and economy, the tourism industry has become one of the rapidest development and the largest scale industries in the world, which plays an important role in the world economy. Since entry into the WTO, the tourism industry of China has achieved rapid development and has made a great contribution to the development of national economy. The studies of tourism economic impact have become the focus of academic field.Shanxi Province is an important energy base in China, whose abundant coal resources have made an important contribution to the economic development of the eastern coastal areas and have become the main support of its economic development. However, it has gotten into the dilemma of "resource curse" in recent years, which made the government begin to transform and adjust its industrial structure in October1999. The government positions the tourism industry as one of the top seven advantageous pillar industries and introduces a series of policies to promote the development of tourism industry and the transformation of industrial structure, which makes the tourism industry become the pioneer of industrial structure transformation. Therefore, the influence degree of tourism economy is discussed and the future development direction of tourism industry is determined in this paper, which have important application value to optimize and adjust the industrial structure in Shanxi Province.First of all, the review of related researches is described. Basing on geographical thinking and taking Shanxi Province which has the resource-based economic development model as the research object, the study analyzes the impact of tourism industry on economy of Shanxi Province from two aspects, assessment impact index of tourism economy and whether or not tourism industry is the pillar industry, in the perspective of the implementation of industrial structure transformation, and evaluates tourism competitiveness of11cities in Shanxi Province comprehensively. The data is obtained through field research and extensive collection of relevant information. The subjects, including economic geography, regional economics, tourism economics, tourism planning and other related disciplines are the theoretical basis of this study. The conclusions of the research are as follows:(1)The results on impact index of tourism economy in Shanxi Province:over the past15years, it has risen from5.71%to23.37%and its average annual growth rate is10.59%, which means that the impact of tourism industry on regional economy is increasing gradually. However, the increase was replaced by a drop in2007. What’s more, it can be seen from two special years that the effect of tourism industry on the economy should not be underestimated. In2003, the tourism economy was depressed because of the SARS and its impact degree on the economy decreased, for example, the tourism industrial status decline, pulling effect on demand drop and the function of realization the social product value decrease. In2009, the development speed of national economy declined because of the world financial crisis, however, tourism economy did not affected by it and the impact degree on the national economy rose.(2) The results of evaluation the tourism industrial contribution to the economy of Shanxi Province by four indicators:the tourism industry of Shanxi Province has been a great development, but it does not reach the standard of the pillar industries. Therefore, tourism industry can be seen as quasi-pillar industries to plan and adjust, which can give full play its role to the economy.(3) Basing on the analysis results of tourism competition performance, tourism competition potential and tourism competition environment, the11cities are grouped into four categories by the advantages and disadvantages of their development:Taiyuan belongs to the excellent tourism performance area. Datong, Xinzhou, Jinzhong and Yuncheng belong to the rich tourism resources area. Yangquan, Changzhi, Jincheng and Linfen belong to the superior natural environment area. Shuozhou and Lvliang belong to the insufficient competition potential area.(4) Finally, based on the research results and the principle of adjustment measures to local conditions, some measures are put forward to promote the tourism economic impact in Shanxi Province:①playing the leading role of the tourism central city;②creation diversified tourism products to satisfy the experience of tourists;③pull private capital into the tourism financing channels;④establishment the government-led tourism development model;⑤to strengthen the construction of tourism group and talent team;⑥enhancement the self-guided services to meet the market demand.
