Abstract


Spring and Autumn Affairs Annals written on silk which was unearthed from No.3 Han Tomb in Mawangdui, Changsha, Hunan Province in 1973, is an ancient book which records the history of the period of Spring and Autumn. Many studies have been focused on collation, explanation and textual research, and less been done from the point of literary character since being found. Even if some contents are mentioned in some works, they only serve as the basis of argument. This thesis attempts to explore the literary value and cultural implication of Spring and Autumn Affairs Annals through the way of positivism integrated with logical analysis.The thesis is composed of four parts—preface, principal part, conclusion and appendix. The preface is about the situation of study and something about unearthing. The principal part falls into four chapters: Chapter One is about the main content of Spring and Autumn Affairs Annals which includes the relation between prince and minister, the relation between ministers and the relation between states. Chapter Two is about the literary genre character of Spring and Autumn Affairs Annals, which is embodied as the structure feature, the way of appealing to reasons and the genre style. Chapter Three is to explore the relation between Spring and Autumn Affairs Annals and other documents related such as Zuo Zhuan, Guo Yu etc. Chapter Four is about Spring and Autumn Affairs Annals and essays before Qin Dynasty. The conclusion is to establish its position in the history and point out the significance. The appendix includes the picture of book written on silk, the explanation, reference books and papers.This thesis is elaborated on the exploration of the literary value of this book. Through the demonstration of this article, the author tries to prove that this book not only bears with important literary value, and also possesses irreplaceable position and significance in the history of development of essays before Qin Dynasty.
