SSD (Solid State Disk, SSD) flash memory as a storage medium , it has many advantages of high-performance , low -power , low- noise , is an ideal substitute of the traditional disk . As capacity increases , prices fall, SSDs will be widely used. Flash memory (FLASH) is an electrically erasable semiconductor storage medium , due to the limitations of the manufacturing process and an external interface , the single - chip flash memory read and write speeds are very limited, in order to meet the throughput requirements for the high - performance solid-state storage , through a multi-piece Flash memory working in parallel to achieve higher performance. A detailed study of the working principle of the flash memory , and for the characteristics of the flash , the proposed cross-access , the bit extension , such as multi-channel to increase flash parallelism , can significantly improve the performance of the solid state disk . A flash controller is designed and implemented , and is compatible with a variety of flash memory chips , its command set , the ECC checking function , and the introduction of the operation mechanism of a latent command , fewer interruptions , and optimize the performance of solid-state disk . In order to validate parallel flash , and flash memory controller , designed and implemented an FPGA-based the SSD prototype system , the prototype system provides 4 channels of flash memory , USB 2.0 interface and the underlying package . The test results show that the prototype system can correctly identify the host as a mass storage device , and completed basic read and write operations to achieve the desired results provide an experimental platform for further research on the SSD technology .
