Abstract


In the past few years, China auto industry and other manufacturing industry uploaded a vigorous mass campaign for lean production. Currently, lean production is very popular in China through multiple activities such as lean training, on-site implementation and well-communication under different companies. However, during on-site lean production implementation, there are some issues appeared which cannot be solved in production workshop but in the upper flow. These issues may caused by design defects or unreasonable production process. Meanwhile, consumers’ demand becomes stricter with higher quality and lower prices. These factors force auto parts manufacturers to make continuously improvement on technology, production quality and cost reduction. Under such background, how to reduce the development costs, shorten the research cycle and then improve design and manufacture process during production development phase are the chief problems for auto parts manufacturers.This thesis deals with the production development process of Delphi Packard with lean thinking principles. Through use Lean principles such as continuously value stream, pull, continuous improvement to find out the key problems of production development process and provide effective action plans to achieve a maximum effect on shortening development cycle, reducing cost and improving design quality. Meanwhile, at the end of this thesis, use one example to clarify Lean principles in the application of product development. Besides, I hope that the actions with lean principles in this thesis are also useful for similar manufacturers.
