Abstract


In English teaching, reading instruction to improve students' comprehensive ability plays a vital role. Therefore, do a good job of training students' reading ability in English teaching is an urgent need to solve the problem. However, currently most teachers teaching reading comprehension in terms of discourse mainly around the word to explain the semantic and syntactic at two levels, but ignored the Lexical Cohesion in Discourse and its impact on the role of discourse coherence. This study aimed to explore the lexical cohesion theory is applied English majors reading comprehension, reading comprehension for students effects, its meaning is to encourage students in the reading process can effectively use lexical cohesion theory, to deepen the understanding of discourse , broaden thinking and trying to be English teachers teaching reading from the macro to provide some reference in the recommendations. The study includes three research questions, first, to Michael Hoey convergence theory is applied to the vocabulary of English majors reading comprehension, is able to improve students' reading comprehension? Second, if you can improve, then for each group at different levels the impact of students' reading comprehension how? Third, for the different reading comprehension questions, what is the impact? object of this study Gansu Provincial Law 115 freshman English majors study tools questionnaires, before and after Test Volume and SPSS. The study was designed for a semester teaching experiments verify the feasibility of the theory and the experiment showed that, Michael Hoey convergence theory is applied to the vocabulary of English majors reading comprehension, can effectively improve students' reading comprehension. In this thesis, designate Yi (Hoey) lexical cohesion theory as the theoretical basis, the discourse model into the vocabulary join English Reading Vocabulary Reading Comprehension cohesion theory the main emphasis should be on the macro and micro levels, emphasizing the overall of discourse for understanding the level of discourse focuses on understanding the meaning of high-frequency words. It emphasizes the relationship between the level of discourse, non-linear, and pointed out that the bond formed by repeating vocabulary used to identify the different types of sentence, therefore, the model is only suitable for non-narrative discourse. This paper consists of six parts. The first part of this study discusses the background, purpose and meaning. The second part is the literature review, the main purpose of this research in the development and research status at home and abroad are briefly reviewed. The third part introduces Michael Hoey's lexical cohesion theory related content. The fourth section describes the experimental design, methods and specific teaching steps. The fifth part analyzes the data and draw the findings. Sixth section concludes the paper, the following conclusions: Under the guidance of the theory of teaching reading to improve students 'English reading ability is helpful, it can develop students' language articles under the framework of the vocabulary to understand consciousness, helping students develop more accurate and fast write textual summaries the ability of the student's overall reading comprehension help. Finally, the shortcomings of this study, and future research directions, and that this teaching method in the use of the key is to stimulate students' background knowledge and make knowledge and discourse linked to grasp the whole article.
